A COLLECTION OF SHOES FOR MAINTAINIG A HIGH ARTISTIC POSITION
Open Collection, The Four Domes Pavilion, Wroclaw, 2024

A set of five pairs of shoes, deconstructed and reassembled into absurd, impossible configurations. The work is a tribute to Ewa Zarzycka and a reference to her famous performance, in which she attempted to maintain a high artistic position using high heels.
Zarzycka’s performance, characterized by her ironic style, treated shoes as a metaphor for artistic status, while at the same time satirically questioning its meaning and stability.

The “Collection of Shoes for Maintaining a High Artistic Position” expands on this idea by deconstructing both the object itself and its original function. Their beautiful yet absurd and dysfunctional form serves as a metaphor for the effort to elevate one’s prestige and position in the art world. The collection humorously comments on the grotesque competition for a place at the forefront.

The objects were created specifically for the benefit performance festival “Scanning Ewa”, held in December 2024 at the Four Domes Pavilion in Wrocław, and were publicly presented for the first time during Dariusz Fodczuk’s performance “The Concealed Contents”.
